Now Satine's traveling to the glamorous Miramar Playa hotel in Miami Beach, the setting of the new 1950s-based Starz series Magic City, premiering April 6. She plays Judi Silver, a high-class call girl who plies her trade amongst a dangerous backdrop of political power, mob money, showbiz glitz, and Cuban revolutionaries. "I'm obsessed with anything having to do with that time period, so it was literally a dream come true to be a part of that world," says Satine. "I really loved the movies of that period and found myself becoming fixated with not only the Humphrey Bogarts and Audrey Hepburns, but with the time. It was so glamorous and sexy—everything from the cars and the clothes to the way women and men carried themselves. I've always felt like I was born in the wrong era and should've been around in the '50s."
While her character's silver-centric style—from shiny metallic nails to platinum-blonde hair—and brassy-on-the-outside, broken-on-the-inside attitude evokes Marilyn Monroe, Satine theorized the real-world wellspring for Judi and posed the question to series creator, writer, and executive producer Mitch Glazer. "I asked him if any of the inspiration for Judi came from Judith Campbell Exner," she says, having discovered the story of the notorious party girl—who reportedly bedded JFK, Sinatra, and mob boss Sam Giancana—during her research on the era. "I got a very coy sort of answer, but to me, [Exner is] somebody who reminds me of Judi very much.
"There was never a point in my life where I considered doing anything else, or even considered a backup plan," says Satine of her lifelong pursuit of performing. "Failure was just not an option. It was like, I'm either going to do this, or I'm going to be a crazy lady on the street performing one-woman plays. That's just what's going to happen."

While happy to have the role, she was also worried about how she could possibly transform into somebody so different. And then, she got The Wig.
“Judi is so the opposite of who I am,” Satine confesses. “She’s the life of the party, the girl who always says the funny thing and the one you want to be around all the time. I’m very reclusive. So I was trying to find ways to make the character believable. Then her wig showed up and I got lost in that other person.”
Just minutes before she filmed her first scene in the series, the big head of bright blonde hair finally arrived and she slipped it on. One look in a mirror to herself in perfect period clothes topped by a Marilyn Monroe ‘do and “that was the moment I went, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this.’ The power of The Wig was amazing.”
Judi is just one of the many characters in the new series who try to accurately replicate the look and feel of late 1950s Miami. Much of the drama in “Magic City” centers around a hotel in that city, the Miramar Playa, which is operated by Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). The series is steeped in historical detail, covering everything from the revolution going on in nearby Cuba to the mob’s expanding influence to the political gamesmanship going on with the Kennedy family. Much of the plot revolves around Ike’s business relationship with hot-tempered, unpredictable mob boss Ben Diamond (Danny Huston).
“The underlying theme in the first season is dark,” says Satine. “Ike finds himself in an predicament in the first episode, and we see that unravel. It’s a dangerous world for him, but the show has moments of everything. There’s a storyline with his youngest son falling in love for the first time that is really innocent and sweet. There’s also lightness and comedy. Much of that comes from Judi because she’s somebody who has no filter.”
She works as an escort at the Miramar Playa and has what Satine describes as “a very interesting relationship with Ike, where he trusts her with the secretive aspects of his business.” She’s also got her own troubled past, kind of like the Marilyn Monroe of Miami – “Judi has a really good heart, and is somebody who is loyal to a fault but finds herself in a lot of trouble. She’s just as lost and damaged as Marilyn.”
Even before landing the part, Satine had a fixation on Monroe to the point where she collected books so she could study the actress. That’s why, “when I got the part of this Marilyn-esque character, all my friends said how fitting it was,” she explains. To really understand the role, however, Satine researched the late ‘50s and early ‘60s in America and found a few other real-life inspirations for her character.
“She’s such a rich and different female from what you’re used to seeing in that time period. She’s not a wife or mother,” says Satine. “So I researched women who were doing things outside the norm at that time. I studied Bettie Page because what she was doing, living in an apartment in the city on her own and doing her bondage pin-up stuff, was considered very jaw-dropping. I also read about Judith Exner, who was President Kennedy’s mistress but was also involved with Frank Sinatra and (mobster) Sam Giancana. She was entangled with the mob, and knew a lot about what was going on in politics. She had her phone tapped by the FBI. I can’t even picture being a person like that.”
After spending a season walking a few miles in Judi Silver’s heels, though, that image is starting to get a bit clearer for her. Satine recently caught up with a friend she hadn’t seen for a while and within minutes of meeting, he told her she was a different person from the last time they’d met. Which was pre-“Magic City.” She couldn’t have been happier, since she realized “a little bit of Judi is rubbing off on me. She’s bringing me out of my shell. I guess it’s the power of The Wig.”
Satine has seen several episodes of her show now, even though she almost never watches her own work in order to avoid all the self-criticism that that would entail. And it’s literally been an out-of-body experience.
“I got so lost in Judie, I retained little memory of what I said and did,” she admits. “So now when I watch the show, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh! I don’t remember doing that?’ And now I find myself missing Judi.”
She won’t be missing her for long. Not only has “Magic City” already been picked up for a second season, it’s first premieres this weekend and the first three episodes of Season One are already available online. We asked her to serve as a guest editor by selecting several shows for the XfinityTV.com homepage, including “Magic City.” Here are her choices – and a brief explanation why.
“MAGIC CITY“: My friends tell me they’re excited to watch because it looks so sexy and glamorous. It’s a world you want to be a part of from the very first frame. But the show is also really education for people who may not know much about the time period. They’ll find it fascinating to learn about Cuba, about politics in the U.S., and how entangled the mob was in the business of trying to legalize gambling. The show will touch on everything, from family to religion to politics to first love.
“FRIENDS“: I moved to the U.S. from Russia when I was 11, and was obsessed with this show. I learned how to speak English from watching it. I related to Phoebe because I was new here and felt like a fish out of water. Everything I did was awkward and I thought everyone figured I was this weird, bizarre person. So I loved that she was also so weird and quirky.
“DEXTER“: It’s another Miami show! And one of my favorites. I love the idea of this character that walks such a thin line of moral ambiguity. He’s not a good guy yet you love him because he does the wrong things for the right reasons. And by the way, the twist in the most recent season….I totally called that from the first couple episodes.
“THE KILLING”: They have such an incredible cast. And Joel Kinnaman, who plays Det. Holder, is the reason I first tuned in. He was in a movie called “Snabba Cash,” which was a fantastic thriller, so when I found out he was on this show I had to check it out. And then the storyline hooked me. Like everyone else, I want to see them solve the mystery.
“THE WALKING DEAD”: I just love scary stuff! I’m a huge horror buff. So when I first heard Frank Darabont was making a show about zombies, my only question was, “When’s it on? I’m there!”
“LOST”: I’m so obsessed with it. I like just shutting myself in the house and watching an entire season in a day or two. That’s the best way. All the storylines stay fresh in your had. I’m a big fan of supernatural things, and they did this show in a way that’s always keeping you guessing.
“ANCIENT ALIENS”: I’m fascinated by anything that deals with the unexplained. I love any show that totally makes me want to know more. How did they build these pyramids? Why did they find these carvings that look like spaceships? This show is something my mom and I agree with. We curl up in the be with a bowl of popcorn and have an “Ancient Aliens” marathon.
“SMALLVILLE”: I was on this show for a while, playing Queen Mera, Aquaman’s wife. I’d seen it during the first season but after I was on it in the final season, I went back to watch every year. Now I’m a real fan because I see these characters and it’s like, “Oh, my god! I know who this is!”
“GOSSIP GIRL“: This is my one guilty pleasure. I have a couple really good friends who’ve been on it so I first watched to support them. Then I got hooked because it’s so soapy and gossipy. A lot of the appeal, I have to admit, is because I’m a girly girl and the clothes are amazing. But it’s just a feel-good, fun, ridiculous show.
“FAMILY GUY”: It’s amazing! Inappropriate humor is so great! I love dark humor that crosses the line and makes you say, “That’s so wrong!” And that’s “Family Guy” to me. Plus, as inappropriate as it is, it’s also really smart.
“ROBOT CHICKEN“: I saw (series co-creator) Seth Green a couple nights ago at a birthday party and I just geeked out over the show when I talked to him. I just had to say, “On behalf of all us weirdos, thank you so much for creating it.”
“I LOVE LUCY”: Lucille Ball is the original funny redhead. I didn’t see this show when I was growing up, but I started watching when I came to America. And it’s so delightful! There’s really nobody who can light up the screen like Lucy. I’d love to be able to do comedy and make people laugh like that. Maybe that’ll happen with Judi Silver, as long as people laugh at the right parts.
“LAST MAN STANDING“: One of my friends is on this show, so I started watching to be supportive. Then I fell in love with it. It’s got great family values and it’s nice to see that throwback style of sit-com. It’s been a while since we’ve had that. It’s also a show that my mom likes.

The television awards season is around the corner and 25-years old Elena Satine is hoping to be part of the Primetime Emmy acting nomination. Her performance as Judi Silver though is likely to be bypassed by the Emmy committee. Pity. Elena alongside Jessica Marais and to a lesser extent Dominik García-Lorido was the beacons of a rather weak Magic City – shining with their natural beauty and sweet naked curves.
Elena slowly but surely comes into her own as the series reaches the climax.
The Georgian talents was thrust to the forefront in most jutting manner on the first episode. Every inch of her soul was squeezed out to portray Judi the reluctant hooker.
In following episode only half of her natural acting skills could be seen but nonetheless devoted fans lap it up. Elena was here to stay.
Elena’s was really at her best in Ep.4 - showcasing God-given gift in very uplifting style. Elenamania just got started baby. Even her old acting coach back in London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art was taken aback in wonder after watching Elena easily mounting the difficulties of histrionics with ease and grace. In fact the old codger gave Elena a call and praised her for the eye-popping performance. He had to cut short the conversation as his other hand was busy with something. He just wanted to hear Elena’s sultry voice. But seconds after the phone call Elena was left wondering why her mentor was breathing so hard…..
She was also quietly effective in subsequent episode. The shape and contours of Elena’s personality is there to be admired and gazed upon in awe. 
But Elena’s Judi Silver was relegated to the side bench of screen time in penultimate episodes. Yet it didn’t stop Elena from displaying few seconds of glorious acting achievement which will be much clearer in Blu-Ray release in October.Elena has been awfully chipper in recent weeks, raring to shoot the second season of Magic City later this month. We can only pray and hope she will be comfortable enough to go full frontal this time around. She also could be happy thanks to possible addition of new female cast member who could take over the nudity segments. Elena also knows having read the initial script for season two that Dominik’s character Mercedes will and should shoulder most of the nudity shift this time around.

Hammond On Ernest Borgnine: Oscar-Winning Actor Who Broke Hollywood Mold
In his final film, The Man Who Shook The Hand Of Vincente Fernandez, Ernest Borgnine played a guy described as “Rex Page” – an old man bitter about never becoming famous and having lived a life without any meaning. Well, Borgnine was really acting in that one because, despite all the odds, he became a Hollywood star in the era of the pretty boy actor. And his life obviously had a lot of meaning, especially to the fans mourning his passing today at the robust age of 95. Judging by so many of the roles he played, somehow I thought the guy was indestructible. He was truly a rock in his rolling stone of a profession.
If ever there was an unconventional leading man it was Borgnine, although I never thought of him really as a leading man. He was, first and foremost, a character actor. As believable as the tough guy of his breakthrough role of Sgt. ‘Fatso’ Judson in 1953′s Best Picture Oscar winner From Here To Eternity as he was in his own Oscar-winning starring role of Marty Piletti, the lonely butcher in Marty just two years later. That was the film he would be most strongly associated with the rest of his life. He also won the British Academy Award, National Board of Review and New York Film Critics awards for the role. Despite competition from his own Bad Day At Black Rock co-star Spencer Tracy, his Eternity co-star Frank Sinatra, James Cagney, and a posthumous nod for James Dean, Borgnine was the unlikely shoo-in for the Oscar in 1955. Academy Awards show host Jerry Lewis even bet Borgnine $1.98 he would win - and Ernie, as everyone called him, paid Lewis with 198 pennies he had stuffed into one of his daughter’s red socks just as he passed the show host on his way up the stairs of the Pantages Theatre to accept his Oscar.Related: R.I.P. Marty was a movie that was actually adapted from television’s Playhouse 90 (starring Rod Steiger) and it won hearts around the world. To this day Marty remains the only winner of the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival to go on and repeat that feat by winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards. And for Borgnine who until his death earlier today was our longest living Best Actor winner, that statuette meant a lot. He kept it on his mantlepiece 56 years and always made a point of saying how proud he was to win it. Sometimes the Oscar Gods smile down on an actor and a certain role. That was definitely the case here. For Borgnine it was his one and only Oscar nomination but he hit it out of the park on the first try.Oscar success so early in his acting career (his first film was 1951′s The Whistle At Eaton Falls) didn’t lead to a srting of high profile leads. I don’t think Hollywood knew quite what to do with him and his unconventional looks. But clearly he was able to escape being stereotyped and that led to a varied non-stop 61-year career in front of the camera in all kinds of parts. In 1956 for instance, he starred opposite Bette Davis in the gentle family drama The Catered Affair, and even did a musical that year, The Best Things In Life Are Free. But still, in the run-up to his signature TV starring role in McHale’s Navy (1964-68), the post-Marty films that stand out were in the tough guy category: notably in 1958 with both the underrated western The Badlanders and the smash hit The Vikings in which he took a supporting role to stars Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis. In fact there’s a photo of Borgnine and Douglas having a laugh together at the star-studded shoot for Paramount’s 100th Anniversary class photo earlier this year. Both of these remarkably vibrant and active 95-year-olds represent the last of a Hollywood breed.
For me though the last really great, meaty role Borgnine had in a major feature was Robert Aldrich’s brutal-to-the-bone action drama, Emperor Of The North (1973) in which he played the sadistic railroad train conductor Shack, the heaviest of heavies and a vivid reminder nobody was as good as Borgnine when he was bad. With co-star Lee Marvin, Borgnine engaged in one of the great fights in movie history – and all on top of a moving train! The movie wasn’t a hit even though Aldrich had the good sense to reteam his Dirty Dozen pair, Marvin and Borgnine, only six years after that film hit paydirt. But it’s worth checking out, a film that seems to improve with each viewing and one of many classics (if an unheralded one) featuring this great star.
It’s great that Borgnine could be so engaged and busy right to the end, turning in poignant performances in a number of recent projects including the independent Another Harvest Moon to surprise hit Red to an Emmy-nominated turn on the last episode of ER to the aforementioned The Man Who Shook The Hand Of Vincente Fernandez which brought him the Best Actor award at the Newport Beach Film Festival only three months ago.Borgnine’s last major showbiz honor came about a year and a half ago when he won the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. His fellow actors finally realized after 93 years he was the real deal, the definition of a consistent working actor no matter how difficult that can be to accomplish. But like so many things he was very humble about it. Backstage he said, “You say to yourself, ‘Am I really worth it? Do I deserve something like this?’ It’s hard to explain. I’ve always enjoyed being an actor. I always had the feeling something would come along that’s even better with the next picture.”
Ernest Borgnine never stopped looking for the next best thing, and by doing that he gave us a lot of indelible movie memories.

I've always been a swallower. As a child, I swallowed anything the vacuum cleaner failed to pick up. Crayons. Paper. Nose boogers. Teens Texting Nude Photos of Themselves Are Getting Out of Hand

A recent study found that 28% of all teens text fully nude photos of themselves. 77% of the girls and 82% of the boys who had admitted sexting were no longer virgins. We parents thought phone cameras were used for sending photos of our babies and Instagraming our dinner. We completely forgot that those babies grow up and might think nothing of electronically sending, or posting online, nude or semi-nude images of himself or herself. WHAT? Damn you technology. We’ve come full nude circle.
As the mother of little girls, this scares the hell out of me. Technologically advanced children have become accustomed to instant gratification. Teens get caught up in a moment; pose, click, send. Poof! Within seconds, that same photo is on FB, Twitter, Instagram, in an email or a sext sent to some unrequited love interest. A nude photo of himself or herself is out there forever. Forever, people.When I was in high school, in the late 80’s, we would have first had to coax ourselves into taking the nude photo. It would have involved some peer pressure and copious amounts of Zima. More often than not, we’d end up with a hangover and still too freaking chicken to take, little lone mail, that nude photo. If we had the balls to take the photo, we still had to morally talk ourselves into mailing that photo and then wait 3-5 business days before there was any fall out. There was even a very slight chance that we could intercept it or it would get lost in the mail. It was a much more taboo thing to do then. People would think you were a whore and chances were the douche you sent it to would show the entire football team.
I would never have sent a nude photo or sext to a boyfriend for the simple fact that 1) those Zack Morris cell phones didn’t have camera capabilities 2) I was too afraid my dad would find out and kill me or 3) worse, it would be shown to the entire school on a projector or something. Good old-fashioned parenting and giant ineffective phones scared me straight.
Today, teenagers have convinced themselves that it’s not a big deal to give a classmate oral sex. What? I know I’m knocking on the crypt keeper’s door by being almost 40 but isn’t sticking someone’s business in your mouth a little more “intimate” than the actual act of having sex? In my book, oral sex is as intimate as it gets. There may be a few good men who can say they’ve gotten into these knickers (okay and a couple of assholes)but not many at all who can say they’ve gotten their business into this mouth. But teens today think it’s no big deal because it’s not sex. News alert, oral sex is sex. It says so right there in the title. THAT scares me.
We are raising our kids in a world where the kids who aren’t doing “it” are made to feel like freaks and those who are having sex don’t think it’s a big deal, at all. Pass the condoms. Do today’s teens think they are living in an episode of Skins? I’m all for experimenting and coming of age but I’d prefer the cuming happens around 17/18 not 12.
